C.F.A.G.S
Croydon Federation of Allotment and Garden Societies
The Site
The society has been in existence in one form or another since Victorian times and is one of the longest standing allotment sites in Croydon. We celebrated our 125th birthday in 2009.This large site has a total of 1400 rods, split into 187 plots, with 148 members. We have a Community Shop, where we sell compost, seeds, potatoes, onions, fertiliser etc.Monthly working parties are held every first Sunday of the month for plot holders to help out and work together in the maintenance of the site. In addition the site enjoys two established projects with local community groups. (School and a minority group)The site address is Lion Road, Croydon, CR0 2QB.
People
We have a diverse membership including plotholders from South Africa, Mauritius, Nigeria, The Caribbean, New Zealand just to name a few. We are pleased that more women and several young families are now active on the site and several plotholders have been members since the early 1960s.We encourage local community groups to join us and we have a wealth of information and experience that can assist newcomers.
